Some of this is easier sitting down.
Sixty pieces of gear typed on a phone is an evening. Brought in from a spreadsheet it’s a minute. Nobody writes three paragraphs about a walk with their thumbs either, and nobody reads a whole season’s worth of anything on a screen the size of a hand.
So Wildra has a second half. Open it on any computer, sign in with the same Apple Account, and it’s the same walks and the same gear — because it is reading the same iCloud, not a copy of it.
What it’s for
Not everything. The phone is better at most of this — it’s the thing in your pocket at the trailhead, and it’s the only one of the two that comes walking. This is for the work a keyboard is genuinely better at.
Filling the Locker
Bring a gear list in from a spreadsheet or from LighterPack and Wildra will sort out the categories itself. Weights, prices, what you’ve lent to whom — all of it types faster than it taps.
Food, off the back of the packet
Kilojoules, protein, fat, carbohydrate, serving weight. Six numbers per meal, and a keyboard is the right tool for six numbers.
Planning a pack on a screen you can see
The whole list at once, with what it weighs, instead of a column you scroll. Print it if you like — there’s a pack list made for paper.
Writing it up afterwards
A walk deserves more than a caption. Notes written here land in the same journal your phone recorded on the trail, in among the ones you spoke into it at a saddle.
Leaving your plans
Who to call, when to worry, what the car looks like. It’s a form, and forms are easier sitting down.
Still your iCloud
This is the part worth being clear about, because a web page usually means a server somewhere with your things on it.
There isn’t one. The page in your browser talks to your iCloud directly, the same account your phone syncs with, using Apple’s own sign-in. Nothing passes through a machine of mine, nothing is stored on one, and there is no copy of your walks anywhere for me to read or lose.
What you’ll need
A computer with a modern browser, and a Wildra membership. It’s not a separate purchase and there’s nothing to install — if you’re a member it’s already yours.
Sign in with the same Apple Account you use on your phone. Your walks are there when it opens.
Where to next?
Wildra is free to use, one walk at a time. Membership keeps your walks in your own iCloud and lifts the limit: A$39.99 a year, or A$24.99 for founding members, for as long as you keep it — open until 31 October 2027, so there’s no rush to be first.
